Welcome To Yogam Agro Products!

Serving Traditional, Healthy and Quality Products

YOGAM is a company which is into marketing and selling Agro Products with a vision to reconnect to Indian traditional methods of living. As a starting point, the idea that started as, let’s try to follow the tradition, soon changed into what you see as an inspirational journey to reconnect to Indian traditions whenever and wherever possible and spread the word . As a first step we are into selling traditionally made Chekku (Ghani) oils also known as cold pressed oils, which goes a long way in restoring back good health which seems to be the need of the hour. At Yogam we would like to play our small part by being responsible citizens of the planet, to create awareness to appreciate Indian traditional values and to impart this knowledge to the future generations especially to kids to start in their young age to learn to eat wise , stay healthy and be an inspiration to others wherever they go.

What is so special about Cold-Pressed Oils?

Let’s take a look at how things were prior half a century ago. Earlier we used to take containers to get oil from the oil store. Groundnut oil, Sesame Oil and Coconut Oil extracted from Chekku (Ghani) was a way of life then. There were lesser bacterial and Virus-related diseases. Soon after, industrially processed refined oils took over the market as someone or some big company advertised that sunflower oil was the best for the heart. Without even giving a thought, our predecessors fell for the attractively and conveniently packed refined oils. After almost 30-40 years later we find many Indians with several diseases without knowing what caused it, were lining up at clinics and hospitals to get their medicines to control Blood Pressure and Heart Ailments.

Ghani Pressed

What happens in the modern methods?

HOT PRESSED:

In recent years, the oil seeds are crushed and hot process or supplying a lot of heat upto temperatures of 230 degrees centigrade is applied to the pulp under pressure. In this process maximum oil is extracted but the downfall is, the hot process alters the properties of the oil molecules in unfavorable ways (produces carcinogenic hydrocarbons) resulting in stripping off its nutritional value. Adding Hexane as a solvent for optimum extraction causes many – including dermatitis and Central Nervous System – depending upon the quantity of hexane inhaled or Ingested.

EXPELLER PROCESS:

Even in Expeller Pressing which involves a mechanical process using an iron expeller, there is heat produced due to the mechanical action on the oil seed that results in high temperature generated altering the chemical composition of the oil hence leading to the unfavorable output as in hot pressed process. Let’s come to understand what is Cold Pressed Process of extracting Oil in order to appreciate the benefits of what Traditions had provided us to lead a Healthy Life Style.

COLD PRESSED:

In Cold Process the oils seeds are crushed in a Ghani or Chekku and ground with a Pestle made of wood until the oil is extracted. This is the simplest method for cold-press as there is no heat generation unlike the hot process. The cold pressed and expeller pressed process are same except that temperature is controlled in the cold pressed method against the expeller method where lot of heat is generated which is more than the temperature set by European Union Regulations.

What are the BENEFITS of Cold Pressed Oils?

Antioxidants that fight harmful radicals and prevent growth of tumors are retained in cold pressed method but destroyed in other methods. Chekku oil is traditionally supplemented with palm sugar or jaggery, which heightens its flavor and also its nutritional value. Store the oils in clay utensils or good quality steel utensils to keep the freshness and increase the shelf life of the oil.
